Chimpanzee Named Panzee Can Speak and Understand Human Language

Intelligent chimpanzee named Panzee could recognize words disjointed and incomplete, which is spoken by the computer. Thus the findings of scientists.

Quoted from the BBC Indonesiam, Panzee researchers raised since age 8 days and make him smarter

This shows that great apes may be better able to understand the spoken voice than previously thought, and that the common ancestor of humans and chimpanzees probably also have this capability.

This finding is also sued the opinion that human beings have brains that are uniquely formed to cultivate a conversation, say scientists who published their findings in the journal Current Biology.

Panzee raised from the age of 8 days by humans, and to talk to and be treated like humans. At the same time, he was taught to use symbols called lexigram to communicate.

"As a result, Panzee demonstrate the ability to understand about 130 English words," kara researcher, Lisa Heimbauer kepda BBB Nature.

This makes it suitable female chimpanzee into a creature that is suitable for testing hypotheses about the extent to which other species, not humans, might be memahani conversation.

"As a result, Panzee demonstrate the ability to understand around 130 words in English."

Lisa Heimbauer

"There is visibility mengebai human ability to produce and mememahami conversation called 'Speech in Special'," said Heimbauer who is adjusting to for his PhD.
Enough experience

"This argument says that although humans are the only species that are able to speak because of their anatomy, they also have a special cognitive module to process the words."

Evidence for that comes from research showing that humans can understand the words even if incomplete or discontinuous.

So Heimbauer and his colleagues Michael Beran and Michael Owren, both from Georgia State University in Atlanta, USA, Panzee test to see if he can also recognize words that are incomplete or discontinuous.

They were playing the sound of disturbed speech in front Panzee, which converts the frequency of words spoken. This produces a sound similar to what is heard by people who wear hearing aids.

They also play to Panzee what is called a sine wave sound, which is synthesized from only three pure tones.

Researchers found that Panzee recognize words that are broken far more often than could be done by chance.

The way he grew up, say scientists, seems to give mediocre experience to hear and understand words that are disconnected, which allows him to recognize these words when disturbed.
